Pics of Bailey,s yard.

Here are a few satelite pics I got of Bailey’s yard.

Is this on your basement layout or in the attic?

Were is that? The thing is huge.

It’s located in North Platte, Nebraska.

only the world’s largest yard…I was on vacation a few years back and you won’t believe the trains that come and go…there were trains about every 7 minutes thru ogallala Nebraska on the way to bailey;s yard…it’s a railfan’s dream…chuck

Directly quoted out of a weekend photo fun from January…

On the way we passed through North Platte Nebraska (of UP fame) … About one train every three minutes passes here.

North Platte is the location of the Bailey Yard and Locomotive Shops. How many locomotives can you fit under one roof? I estimated about 200 on site.

And of all locomotives on the whole line guess who was coming in for service? It’s none other than the only WP paint scheme to deserve a photo:

AND of course one cannot go to North Platte and not look up 3977.

The Dream.Plan.Build video series has a piece on the yard. The part about the Hump operation is fascinating.

if i remeber correctly, when i lived there in 99 there were about 200 trains a day and i want to say a million freight cars through ther a day…

That layout is big enough it would have to be a multi layer going from the basement to the attic!

Please note it’s Bailey Yard, not Bailey’s Yard. That’s like the folks who tell you they shop at Safeway’s. No such store, it’s Safeway. One of the Nebraska Furniture Mart stores is in Kansas City, Kanas. I’m sure there are people here who will tell you they bought their new coffee table at Nebraska Furniture Mart’s. And they’d be wrong too.
The yard, in North Platte, is named after a former president of the UP. Edd Bailey,

…and there was I hoping it was named after the drink…

Shame that the ballast just looks yeuky… what colour is that?.. from that hieght.[:D]
