Pics of the almost finished lumber yard

I have been working on the lumber yard/ Hardware store for about 2 weeks now and am finally about done just a few minor things to do.

This is the lumber shed, took a lot of time making the lumber stacks.

these are of the chain link fence, I thought it came out pretty good.

This is the front, you can see part of the gates.

And last is a view from the tracks, the delevery truck used to be a Bolens Ambulance.
I would like to thank all those that responded to my post and gave me a lot of good advice on making the shed and especially the fence. Hats off to all of you. Your comments are welcome, what do you think? Mike

I really like the chain link fence especially the barbed wire at the top. Is that a kit or scratchbuilt. If from scratch, what was your technique for the barbed wire.

Thanks for the good mark, everything is scratch built, the chain link is tula(SP) from WM, and the barbed wire is simply gray quilting thread. Mike

I like the way the building sits in the ground all the way around. So many models float above the ground or there are several gaps around the base. Nice work.

A couple things I noticed that should be easy to fix are the parking lot, whcich has a semi-gloss sheen to it, and the yellow stripes on the road, which seem a little large.

Other than that, it’s an excellent model. Thanks for showing it to us.

Tom

Nice job on your lumber yard, Mike. Not only does your chain link fence look good, but I really like the look of that shingled roof in the first picture. Would you care to elaborate on your technique?

As you noted, the lumber piles can be very time-consuming to construct, and even hollow piles consume an awful lot of strip styrene when you’re making 2"x4" or 2"x10" lumber.

I want rust, tyre tracks and weeds!!! [banghead]

I thought the concrete was semi-gloss because it was wet after rain… I’ve been trying to get that effect for years!

How about printing out some price lists and special offer boards etc if your PC will print that small… or print them big and photo them down…

What I would seriously like to know is what size the tule is please? What’s the length in mm of each side of the holes. It looks much smaller than anything I’ve found here.

The truck looks ghastly… nothing wrong with the model: I just hate those trucks that look like they were molded in a pudding basin. If you don’t mind “damaging” them filing a flat on each tyre will allow the vehicles to sit down onto the concrete and look more like they belong / have real weight and aren’t floating… on the rainwater…

If the road stripes are wide (I don’t know) how about over-painting them with a longer, narrower stripe that looks newer so that it looks like they are old stripes that were in a different position? Might be easier than scraping away.

What’s the gateman doing letting that dragon in when the sign says “No Smoking”?

Other than that… I 'spose it’s okay [;)]

No… I have to say… Pretty good [:D]

Wow! Great job. I do like the fence alot. That had to be some work.

By the way, your backdrop painted room looks pretty good! Even painted the light thh light switches too. Nice touch

Good job, Mike. I especially like the barbed wire fence.

Thanks all, Doc, you have a good looking lumber yard, as far as the shingled roof goes all I did was make the building from 1/4’’ plywood with a 1/16’’ basswood roof then printed some shingles from the internet and used Elmers glue and glued the printed shingles to the building then trimed to fit. Hope this helps, If you want the website for the shingles let me know and I will post.
Dave, my eyes are not like I would like them to be but I cot out the calipers and measured the tula the best I could and it is about 1.5mm, it came from Wally World and is a bit expensive, Cost me a whole dollar fot a yard, You cannot hardly miss what I used. The simigloss on the concrete just sort of happened. After I had sanded the drywall mixture and painted it and let it dry good, I applied some chalk to dirty things up a bit and after I had rubbed it in and around it took to being a simi gloss. It is not raining on the lumber yard. I wonder if some Dulcoat would work?
Thanks all for all the supportive re-plies

Here are a couple of pics of the lumber being delivered

And a couple of parting shots

Very nice work Mike. It looks real good and very realistic which is what I always look gfor in pictures and home layouts. You might want to call the fire dept because I see that the telephone pole wire is down and in the middle of the road. [:)]
