Hi I am trying to gather some thoughts on my town and station area. I want al lots of stuff, ‘My cake and eat it too’ kind of guy.
I am planning on squeezing in a streetcar into all this. I believe I can do it.
I am looking for pics of streets or sidewalks that come with combinations of various types of roads.
I am planning on going the styrene cracked asphalt look in some areas.
Plan on concrete sidewalks as well with the styrene.
If you have pics of cobblestone… or brick work for roads… please post it. Links as well. Pics of your layout would be nicer. Any ideas will do.
This is what I’ve got so far.
I went to the hobby store and picked up some plastic simulated brick and roof shingles. I also picked up some Cobblestone tape. It not just printed tape. It actually has some 3D texture to it… very exciting.~
Heres a pic of the town…
Here’s a pic of the station and town… with possible streetcar tracks going down the road and past the station.
I remember hexagonal cobbles from my childhood. I found nothing of the kind when I looked, either in model train places or in gaming supply stores. So, I improvised. I contacted a friend who keeps bees, and found the name of a supplier of artificial plastic honeycomb. I ordered one section from him, and used that to cast a “positive” impression out of modelling clay. I used that to create a “negative” mold out of latex rubber, and finally cast hydrocal sheets using this mold.
I call this scene “Farmers’ Plaza” because of the farmers’ market figures from Woodland Scenincs.
This is a trolley stop on the other side of town. Here, I had to cut the casting very thin to fit it on the ties and not interfere with the trains above.
Mister Beasley, nice shot… nice stuff… I thank you. Hey I even noticed your cracked steps… looks real~ Who would have ever thought of simulated honeycone as a cookie cutter / mold away~ approach. But hey… thats the kind of pics I was looking for.
T Gindy… I thank you also… and leave you both with one pic. You remember the bricks? Just think of the vertical walls involved here with the plastic street / brick / wall material. I must admit… I’m at the point where I’m having fun.
Thanks again you two~
Anyone else care to add a real life photo… or a pic of your layout? I could sure use some ideas… heck make this a joint venture. Ok… bye~
