Pictures of my first layout

Hello everyone. I had put together a webpage a while back to share pictures of my layout with my friends and family, and want to share with you all. I began building the layout about two years ago, and considered it done this past December. I also made a few mini movies, inspired by the article about making video of your layout in MR magazine a couple months ago.

The layout is a freelance, fictional layout, set in the 80-90’s. No particluar rail line or prototypical operation. Just your standard DC roundy-round for enjoyment. So enjoy!

Very nice mtrails. The video was good quality too. 10 icecreams out of 10!!

Ken.

I tried to look but I got a message that said the site was unavailable. “The GeoCities web site you were trying to view has temporarily exceeded its data transfer limit. Please try again later.” I’ll check back tomorrow. John

That’s the unfortunate thing about Geocities, the page can only be viewed so many times an hour. Please check again. Sorry for the inconvenience everyone.

Jeremy

very nice. Success is sweet. Now that it is done, what’s next?

Pictures look great, Congratulations. I will have to come back later and check out the video.

How if you have some free time, you can help on ours! [:D][:D][:D]

Jeremy,

I was able to see the picts today. Very nice! I can only hope my layout turns out half as nice. I wasn’t able to view the video though, I will try again later.

Thanks for sharing.

John

Glad everyone likes my pictures! Thanks for all of the compliments.

ARTHILL, Now that it’s done, what is next, is a prototypical, realistic model of the Southern Pacific in the Sierra mountains. My SP locomotives on my webpage are DCC, and I run them down at the train club. The SSW in the video was brand new, so I got a chance to video it before putting in a decoder. I have been working on a track plan for the past several years, but don’t have the room for it… and don’t know when I will have the room for it. Having time to review the track plan as the years go by, will help me achieve the perfect layout when the time comes. At this time, the plan is for a 12x25 area, but hope to have the option of expansion into another room. I have been collecting SP locos and rolling stock for about 15 years.

When I moved into this house 2 years ago, and realized I had an area to build a layout, I got right on it! I had a couple of BN locos, and I think five cars and a caboose. I’ve got 12 cars now I think. I am not sure what I want to do with the layout when I move. I don’t plan to model the BN. I will try to sell it most likely. I made it in 3 sections. The end sections slide onto threaded studs on the middle section, then just tightened with nuts and washers. The rails line up every time!

Excellent, good job. Any chance you can post a trak plan on the web site?

Larry

I don’t have any software to draw a scale track plan. My track plan sketches are on graph paper. I guess I could try and duplicate them using the paintbrush program. I assume you’re refering to the SP trackplan, and not the layout on my webpage?

Yummy. Very nice looking pics. In general, looks more like a railroad than a layout.

Awsome layout, I too hope that my attempt comes out so fine.
David

Mighty fine, mighty fine! I always like the videos too! That’s a great looking chain link fence, who made it?
Thanks for posting this.
Jarrell

The chainlink fence is a kit by Walthers. I put it together, and It is NOT easy!

clinchvalley (and others),

I have duplicated my future SP trackplan, by drawing it freehand on Windows Paint. Here is the basics:

Very nice looking layout!

And I love watching the videos that people post.
