pictures of your business district ?

Hey guy’s, Does anyone have pictures of their business district , front ,and side views? I expanded my layout and want to put some of those cornerstone buildings up with part of my track going through it but, am not sure if it will look right since the buildings will be seen from the side. I’ll have about 5 to 6 inches on either side of my track on one part of my layout where I’d like to place them.
Can anyone help with some photos?[:D]
I just need a idea before i dump a whole bunch more money into something and not be able to use them or realize that i should have just used a sledge hammer [V]
Thanks for the help
Chris

Here’s an old one. I hope this helps.

yep, that helps fiatfan.[:)] I’m kinda undecided tho… thinking of using the cornerstone background buildings ( since they are shallow ) i can give the impression hopefully that there are more buildings than what there really is and fill up some back space in the process? just don’t know how they will turn out tho? I’ve seen them in the frontal view , but from the side is the problem i worry about since my layout is not three 4x8 tables together( guess you could say 12x 8 ) you can see in from the side.welp, I definitely appreciate the pics they will help alot , thank you so much again

Here’s a link to the start of one of mine… The photos and text of interest start where you see the track plan…

thanks rolleiman, that looks great. still looking for idea on what to do and how to make it look good and realistic[:D]
thanks again
Chris

rolleiman, is that a swing bridge? nice work, like the idea of using alleys. Fiatfan, you got some good pot holes in your road!

Thanks… If you’re referring to the bridge in the top photos on the page, no, It’s Walther’s Bascule bridge… Builds into a decent statc model with some work but the ‘operating’ feature leaves a Lot to be desired… The photo you see in my sig was taken with the train coming off that bridge into the yard area… The wood one in front of it is a combination of a couple Campbells bridge kits (though I don’t know which ones, I bought that bridge as shown)… Been kind of stuck on what to do with that area for quite some time, the wood bridge is just a temp to get trains in and out of the yard area. I knew what I wanted when I first built it but as with all my layouts, ideas have changed… Oh well…

Let’s see some more… [tup]

Hey rolleiman, i think it look great ( your layout) so far. What are your ideas on the area ? maybe if your undecided we can all throw some ideas out at ya ? I know too well about ideas changing [:(] i think the part i have mostly finished has changed about 4 times and the expansion i jut made has already gone through 6 in the past two weeks[V] oh, wooh is me but , ha, that is the fun of it i guess.
All my problems stem from things not working like they should( not that experienced of course so…trial and error (mostly error)[:(!]. My latest is a MRC sound syncro system not working when i connected it $69 waste off ebay.but, anyways, give us the ideas and maybe we can throw a few out to ya.only a suggestion of course
Thanks again for the pics

Downtown of my fictional town. Tanza, Texas.

Thanks Chris, Don’t dispare, it took me 5 years to decide to bring that benchwork 3 feet past the wall into my ‘guest’ area (an old kitchen table with some chairs [;)])… Before then, nothing I tried fit… The ideas came from driving along and through the Delray area of Detroit and trying to figure out how trains use to service some of the businesses in the area… Waba***rains to be specific. Isn’t the nicest of neighborhoods, trash and junk piled all over the place, the sort of things they Didn’t want anyone to see during the superbowl. The redlight district shown isn’t really a model of anything, just a generic representation. Dirtied up buildings, lot’s of junk strewn all over the place, etc will give it the feel of the area… If you can get a look at the backs of some of the buildings in an area like that you can get a pretty good feel for how they may have fit into a track scheme… It wasn’t always a run down crack infested slum. Of course, exercise caution when doing this type of research…

I know what you mean about trial and error… Been there too many times… Here’s the short and condensed version of what I’m after and decisions that have been made so far…

Until 1960, my Grandfather was an engineer on the Wabash, running both passenger from Fort Street Union Station (FSUD) in Detroit and frieght out of the Oakwood yard, both runs terminating in Montpelier Ohio. I have a couple of his old time books from 1956 and 1957 that until recently, I forgot that I had… These books show not only what his hours were but what locomotives he ran, what day, and the type of service (pass or frieght)… The dates are a little fuzzy, grandpa has been gone (physically) for 14 years (and mentally 25 or so) but he was also a fireman on the steam locos… The Wabash was totally dieselized by 1955 so that much I know… After 1960, he went to St Louis to work for union and later became Chairman of the union (BLF&E), retiring in 1972… That’s the condensed history of why I’m interested in the Wabash RR.

Anyway, that specific area of the layout was once intended to be a car-float area but I’ve since decided I don’t want to do it that wa

There are a few photos of the sturctures on the BRVRR posted on my website. Link is in my signature.
