Plastic cleaners

I am looking for some cleaners for plastic. I have some old engines that I am restoring, Any suggestions? Also I need some thing to take off old decals that wont hurt the plastic.

Thanks

mild Soap and water (like Dawn/Palmolive/etc) - be careful though it MIGHT start to eat things you don’t want it to (decals mainly)

I would try a gentle brush and dish detergent with fairly warm water…not hot. Perhaps soaking for 10 minutes would soften what you wish to remove and will reduce the brush strokes.

A weak solution of sudsy ammonia should also do a good job.

Straight pinesol is good for stripping paint, so I’m guessing that you can remove decals with it…but take care to keep the solution off surrounding paint. Not sure how you would do that.

I have heard of some folks using erasers. If the worse comes to the worst, you could paint over the decals and apply the new ones.

A highly concentrated isopropyl alcohol would likely work, too.
