I’m making a HO model building. After I finished gluing the roof pieces together, I still had a small gap. What do you use to fill gaps and then sand and paint. I don’t want to use filler glue because it will melt the plastic if I don’t get it exactly where it needs to go, thank
Hobby stores have various hobby putties, such as Squadron Green Putty.
Others use putty from auto parts stores intended for automotive body work.
Another choice is gel type CA (super glue) mixed with baking soda.
And plastic shavings mixed with solvent, such as MEK or Testors,
If you have an open seam between (supposedly) mating pieces, I find that a suitably-sized piece of styrene strip works well. I like to use a strip that’s just a bit thicker than need to fill the gap - apply some solvent cement to both the strip and the edges of the gap, let things soften for a second or two, then press the strip into place. You can sand, carve, or otherwise clean up the repair after the material has hardened.

Marty,
For wider gaps, I use the same method as Wayne. (And no one will ever really know.)
For thinner gaps around door and windows, I find that vinyl spackle works great. It fills in cracks well, dries quickly, sands easily, and is very paintable. I already have a large tub of it for around the house jobs so it’s economical, too.
