Railway age which also publishes RT&S placed a combined UP + NS map that had glaring NS errors. Since NS & UP put that map up in their initial announcement that has no excuse. To not revise the errors just compounds the mistake. What brought attention was placing Atlanta at the Macon location. Then that caused noting a route from Macon location to August. Upon examination showed route from Asheville - Spartanburg over Saluda. No connection Chatanooga - Knoxville /ATL route. Manassas - NY City not sure about trackage rights.
Will leave it to others to point out any other errors. Link below â– â– â– â– â– â– â– the map.
A little off topic but. Some railroad based cities and towns have the original plot map from after the railroad went in (the railroad plot). I found the one for the City I live in. It is pretty cool. You have to contact the planning department, they will send you a copy if you ask. If you ever get some time on your hands look at old maps online. You can see settler plots with their last name in some cases…before that you can see the Indian tribe ranges marked out with known encampments. It’s like a time machine into the past.
Yes. Just like the 19th century error that the”Golden Spike” (Transcontinental Railroad) was driven at Promontory Point Utah. This mistake still appears today. Even in scholarly history books. Correct location is Promontory Summit, about 100 miles north of Promontory Point.
