For those whom live in Wisconsin, and have heard of Popes Hobbyland in Wausau, they will be closing their doors come November 30,2013.Opened in 1963,Popes Hobbyland was a great place to go and buy the best of the best in model railroading supplies. It was a general hobby shop that carried all kinds of merchandise for every hobby imaginable. Now after 50 plus years of selling high-quality hobby merchandise, Warren Pope, the owner of the hobby shop, is retiring from the business. On a personal note here, I think alot of this has to do with the Hobby Lobby store, that opened up last year on Rib Mountain Drive, in Rib Mountain.
Nah… Hobby Lobby does not deal in real hobby supplies.
Mostly girl stuff!
Sad to see these old line places close up. I went there as a kid back in the late 60’s for railroad and, (blush) slot car racing) supplies. I would always stop in when in Wausau for a great selection of scenery materials. I would guess that in the age of internet retailers we are in now, that this will be seen more and more especially compared to Green Bay, Milwaukee, or Chicago land where a large market exists that might interest a person to take a chance at owning a hobby shop to take over.
