Post Rank

Since the site made some changes, I noticed that some contributors have a “rank.” I assume this is in reference to the number of posts they have on the forum(s). I’ve found #2. Who is # 1? How high does the ranking go? - 20, 100?

I think Selector has a #1 rank…

i think the rank is arbitrary or based solely on number of posts - kind of like how the old forums gave you stars for every x00 posts.

as for how high - at least 128…

You are Number Six.

Does anyone else remember “The Prisoner?” with Patrick McGoohan?

As for post ranking, it is not unique - there may be more than one person with the same rank. Selector and SpaceMouse are both #1.

I guessed how you knew there was at least a # 128 in the ranking. I noticed you are in NE Ohio. I lived in St. Clairsville from 1975-83. My son went to U. of Cincinnati. [:)]

MisterBeasley, Who is the “you” who is # 6?[?] Did someone post something I didn’t see?

What does “The Prisoner” have to do with the original subject? [%-)] (I’m not familiar with it)

It’s getting late. I’ll see (read) you all tomorrow (maybe). [|)]

Walter, I looked at yours. It is 0, so that makes you higher than slector or SpaceMouse [;)] [angel]

Of course I am a 0 too [:D]

There has to be more than one person per rank. I know there are more than three other people who have posted more than I have posted.

“The Prisoner” was a TV show made in England in the late 1960’s, which is the era I model. (Still, this has nothing to do with model railroading, but then again, neither does post rank.) Anyway, it was about a secret agent who resigned, only to find himself kidnapped and brought to a pleasant resort from which there was no escape, where everyone was known only by their number, and where the mysterious people in charge were always trying to get into his head. Most episodes started like this:

"Where am I?"
**"In the Village."**
"What do you want?"
**"Information."**
"Whose side are you on?"
**"That would be telling.... We want** [**information**](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information)**. Information! INFORMATION!"**
"You won't get it."
**"By hook or by crook, we will."**
"Who are you?"
**"The new Number 2."**
"Who is Number 1?"
**"You are Number 6."**

I’m #8 with over 2,630 posts to my credit.

And for me the only American actor to sound more British than us Brits- One of the best TV series ever, it followed on from the Dangerman series he did.

We are Just Numbers!!! Kevin

I’m kind of curious about this “post rank” thing too. I’m a number 2, whatever that means.

I wonder what it’s all about.

Excuse me please Mr. Moderator, but could we get some clarification here please?

I believe “rank” is a big mistake and leads to “Elitism” We are all equals here, just at different stages of knowledge and experience. No one was born knowing any of this, but we all share what we have learned along the way. The stars are seemingly given for quantity, rather than quality. jc5729

I think it’s a measure of how much you have been posting recently. Mine’s currently 4.

Enjoy

Paul

I think its a measure. Posts perday and overall rank is a measure of how much time the person has NOT spent with their layout

(This is a joke, not slander)

It’s basically number of posts, that’s all. Doesn’t denote seniority, quality or intelligence. The fun factor of learning and sharing is what should count.

I have a high count only because I’ve been a very fast reader since my teen years and tend to respond to posts back-to-back-to back within just a couple of minutes on the various threads I can relate to or share info on.

There are multi-year members on this forum of various post counts that are excellent resources of information.

CMarchand’s technical expertice in DCC/Sound comes immedietly to mind.

Don Gibson is the "Passenger Car " Guru.

Dr. Wayne is the ultimate “Scenery & Realistic Water” Chief.

Joe Fugate’s the man to talk to about track work & ballasting.

I still wonder what’s happened with Bob “Fundy Northern” Bordeau and "NightCrawler. I sure miss them.

I appreciate the fact that when some of us have our differences on this forum, we eventually move on and continue to help each other. Overall the info and fellowship here is just too darn good, which is why I continue to stick around.

Yes, it is directly related to your numbers of posts. Spacemouse and I have short histories, but we apparently find the time (too much?) to spend here responding to threads or originating them. The ranking is strictly numerical, not qualitative. Trust me on this; as a newbie, I don’t rank very highly in skill, experience, knowledge, and certainly not for what I say here.

I had hoped that when we transitioned to the new software and format that any reference to a pecking order, ranking, or even to how often we visit/post would disappear so that we could all feel equal in every way. I feel that what we offer to the forum should be the basis on how we are regarded. Naturally, that would be a collective and cumulative impression formed by the membership over time.

We don’t need the count.

My opinion.

Fundy Northern(Bob Bordeau) is here. http://www.modelrailroadforums.com/forum/index.php

I don’t know where “NightCrawler” is though.

Yes Bob is on that forum. He posted a great clinic on photography. Check it out. I printed it out and have added it to my research files.

Guys,

Thanks for the heads up on Bob. I’ll check out his photography clinic.
