I have a Lionel PW Milk Car but I don’t have any cans. Where would I get them? Is that an ebay thing or does someone sell them?
Most parts dealers carry them. It’s been a while since I’ve bought any, but I believe that I paid around $2 each for the ones with magnets in the bottom. You can also get them without magnets, although I think they definitely do work better with magnets.
In any case, I buy all of my parts from Grandpas Toy Train Parts and Repair, 859-384-3038. He’s great to deal with, ships fast, and is one of the few businessmen left who has enough faith in people to ship their parts before receiving payment. Other folks have parts dealers they like, however I’ve never needed to go any further than him.
The metal cans with magnets work with the early “shorty” milk cars, while the plastic cans with metal bases work with the later “scale-sized” milk cars. And never the twain shall meet!
I made the mistake of putting early cans in a late car, and had to completely disassemble the thing!
No can work best in modern-era cars, not because the cans are bad, but because Lionel failed to install the proper plunger mechanism to slow down the action!
My late Post War car places ten cans for ten button pushes onto the platform each and every time!

Has anybody tried the K-line milk cars, if so do they work reliably?
Jeff Kane at www.ttender.com has them
