Our club acquired an engine and a three cars of a POW-MIA Commemorative HO-scale train - beautiful !!! Does anyone know how many cars are actually available and how to get them? They were (or are) available from Bradford Exchange and Hawthorne Village. I don’t know if they are manufactured by Bachmann or Athearn? Our club is interesting in gaining the full set of cars and learning more about the full set.
God bless our service men and women and their families - especially POW and MIA families.
Most of the train stuff for Hawthorne Village/Bradford Exchange is made by Bachmann.
They never tell you how many cars are available and may only produce additional cars if there are enough “subscribers” to the series. They like to keep people buying their stuff. Even the BE site doesn’t say how many more or IF there are more or how much “each addittional car” is.
BUT, “hurry now, Strong demand is expected” so “get yours now!”
AT $225 for the starter set, I’ll pass. The only good thing that I see, is that a “A portion of the proceeds from each sale will be donated to help families of POWs and those missing in action”. But like all such donations, I question just how much of the proceeds actually goes to what for the “charity” they purport to support-in this case the POW-MIA. If I want to donate to a cause**, I will find a better charity that values of what I think it should in supporting the cause{s} I support than buying a cheap trainset.**
Many MRRs say that the Hawthorne/Bradford stuff is for 'Suckers who will collect anything".
Bachmann DOES make some great stuff, but the “train set junque”, expensive HV/BE stuff is just not in my camp.Sorry.
ANd yes, Bless our servicepeople and let us remember, lest we forget…
Bachmann are, as far as I know, the only manufacturer of the ex Santa Fe full length dome cars, so I’d suggest that the set really is made by Bachmann. Not a great model by current standards but it dates back to their Auto Train models from the late 1960s/early 1970s.
WHat I DO see is a reference in the same paragraph on search items that says “” Each car in this real working collectible electric train set is sturdily built, precision …Lifelike Trains HO ScaleRail Blaster Train Set…“”
The Rail Blaster train set is DIFFERENT than the POW-MIA train. It is here:
I’m finding it hard to understand, what the big deal is?? My initial response to the OP,was where to find information to the set in question. I NEVER said who made it…I actually, asked was it made by Life-Like,I thought it was, I was wrong,I personally,Don’t care who made it,end of conversation…
Number of cars and availability may depend on when the set was released. If it is a fairly new release, there certainly could be more cars released to add to the set. If it is an older set, they could be done adding to it.
The only set I know much about is the one celebrating the Red Sox 2004 World Series victory. The set was about finished being metered out or just finished (can’t remember exactly) when they won again in 2007 and a car was added.
Though they are rather expensive, they do give us something to talk about.
