I have seen some made out of small thread spools that looked really good. Food for thought especially if the wife sews. And the price is right.[:)]

BATMAN seems unprepared for this one (always wanted to say that [:p] ) cause even the smallest thread spool is huge in HO scale…unless your modeling G scale and I’m in the wrong forum - oops!
Anyway, I assume you mean a canister type transformer, hung from the line pole, and also thaty you already did the Walthers On-line Catalog advanced search for Line Pole Transformers, and saw the Shelly Finishing touches entry (badly drawn image). Can’t vouch for that yea or nay.
However, I remember the Atlas Telephone pole ‘kit’ came not only with 12 poles (of OK quality) and 2 callboxes, but 4 line pole transformers of decent quality (the back had a slot, but that was more or less hidden when you mounted them to the pole). Not sure if the kit still comes with these transformers (web search is inconclusive, with a few postive hits, no negative hits). There are some images of the kit box front, but they don’t indicate if the transformers are still included or not - maybe that was printed on the box sides.
Some are found in the Walthers Cornerstone Electric Utility Pole Set, item 933-3101: http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/933-3101
As mentioned, some pre-made poles come with transformers on a few of them. Depending on the area you are modeling, the distance between them varies depending on the amount of draw. If yo wanted to make a bank of them, as sometimes seen on a pole, I would thinkk you could make a credible transformer out of an appropriate size dowel. Of course era makes a bit of difference older ones tended to be smooth sided, newer ones often are not always round and may have some cooling fins. Could carefully glue on some very thin strips to represent the fins. A couple of short pieces of wire or tiny nails in the top to represent terminals.
Good luck,
Try Rio Grande Models, They have a pole and transformer set.

Ya no kidding! Talk about brain farts. That’s the third stupid thing I did today.[D)] I went back and found the “how to” article and it was spools from the inside of those little tiny dental floss samples, your dentist gives away. I think I’ll let Alfred take the next call.[sigh]

I used the ones from the Walthers set, and am pleased with their appearance:

He needs “MORE POWER” than the rest of us. [(-D]
Another possibility would be to use HO scale drums or barrels. Many transformers are about drum size and shape in the prototype world. Several sources for drums and barrels are available. Paint dark gray, brown or black and mount near the pole cross bars.
