I have short wheelbase steamers and want to power the frogs of my “DCC Friendly” Walthers/Shinohara code 83 turnouts. There doesn’t seem to be any provision by the manufacturer to do this. Do you have any siggestions as to a simple method?

When I first saw this title, I just had to laugh - if you aren’t a model railroader, it must sound bizarre - like we’re resurrecting the original galvanic experiment, or something.

There is a website - recently posted - re: wiring the new Walthers ‘DCC friendly’ turnout’s.
Orher than that , drill a small hole (.080-.090?) or cup in the underside of the frog, install a matching brass screw, solder a fine brass wire , and clip off the excess screw, leaving the wire and it’s post…
A ‘Divot’ can be made in the roadbed to accomdate the ‘post’ remnants of the screw.

I soldered directly to the bottom of the frog after cutting away the plastic. Made this modification to about 5 of the Walthers switches.

It is an amphibian…just kidding. In english it is the part of the switch where the rails cross each other, and it has the small section of rail head missing so that the flange can pass through.

I think the name comes from a part on the hoof of horse – check it in a dictionary or ask your horse-mad sister.
