My father bought me a Lionel Hudson 2-4-2 with a coal tender and passenger cars with a caboose that has an observation deck. The engine has some issues but the cars are really primo and in the original boxes. The set was bought in the early thirties and I am trying to find an approximate value and am contemplating having the engine restored. Can anyone shed some light or share an opinion. reply to senatorsnort@gmail.com
You would have far better success at Posting your inquiry on the Classic TOY Trains Forum - this is for REAL Classic trains
Moved by selector.
To get a better idea of what you have, please list the numbers on the sides of the pieces (and on the bottom of the tender). A “Hudson” should be 4-6-4 arrangement. Pricing is quite varied, while some could give a real rough ballpark, it is better left to local person who can inspect the pieces. Greenberg’s has a pricing guide, but again, that is only a rough estimate. If you can find like pieces on eBay by doing a search, you can see what they are currently selling for. There are some professionals who can do a great restoration on your pieces, but make sure you get references. The folks here are great about helping each other along in the hobby, so ask any questions you have. It is a good idea to do a search of questions in case they have already been addressed. Not that we mind your asking, but you would have answers all set.

I would guess A 249E or 259E. If your wheel arrangement is correct. Both are common for the age. I like the 249E it’s classy . The 259E ,I always thought they had a funny cab, but the Lionel Logo looks good.
This is the toy train operating and collecting forum, this is as good a place as any to post you inquiry siberianmo.
Ugh n1vets333
I think both posts were in classic trains and transported here. So now siberianmo is in the wrong forum. It confused me too when I first read it. Easy mistake.
