Prewar American Flyer Pictures - An invitation 2.0

This is the title of the thread that I started 17 years ago and hosted until the early photos disappeared and the old Forums became inaccessible. I will post many of the photos from that old thread over time and new photos of equipment that I have added to to my collection over time. I would like to invite folks to post photos of American Flyer trains and accessories that are in their collections and to ask questions. I would like to keep the focus on prewar items to begin with.

Some examples:

Here are examples of Narrow (O) Gauge passenger cars. Photos from 2007

So this is a start.

Love the progression in sizes, so typical of the times.

I find that I have only one still from my Christmas layouts with Flyer on the track. Please excuse the Lionel, et al., buildings and accessories. I will try to get some additional pics of my Flyer stuff later.

I really like all of the SG offerings, but I have come to like the Flyer Wide Gauge the most. They look “right,” somehow, given their proportions.

Here is a comparison of Flyer’s Wide Gauge and their Narrow Gauge. I like Flyer’s marketing scheme of producing similar equipment in both gauges,

And here is their Wide Gauge Hamiltonian.

My entire Flyer prewar collection. Aside from these 3 pieces I only have pea green and maroon MTH reproductions of Flyer’s single and double street lamps which never came with the correct bulbs with the metal finials.

I like to pull the boxcar, the Ives and Dorfan gondolas flanking it and 4 wheel Ives caboose top shelf center behind the 3195. I have one rod and I’ve been searching for it’s mate for years. I don’t run the loco often because it turns into a smoker after a few minutes. Anyways, here she is in action:

Penny,
Its always great to see your trains running, and your scenery is always spectacular.

Thanks,

Northwoods

Unfortunately that layout is long gone and this one has a long way to go

Matt, the S Gauge Pennsy K5 was a #312. Unfortunately I ended up selling all of my S Gauge when I moved here.

Oh I see now that was S gauge. When I previously wrote I thought both loops were O

Here is a very common and easy to find Narrow Gauge set, the Oriental
Set #1337. A previous owner added some frosted windows to the two passenger cars.

This is the #3112 Midsized Boxcab available in 1928 -1929

Matching baggage car

“Paul Revere” Pullman

And the “Lexington” Observation
