Prewar American Flyer Pictures - An invitation 2.0

Congratulations on your anniversary, and on adopting your new fur baby.

That is a nice #4006. You are building a very impressive Wide Gauge freight consist. What are you going to pull it with?

Thanks!

So far, I have pulled it with the #4644 I posted 'way back on 2/27. It and the #4000 are the only two Flyer engines I have so far. It pulls the 4 cars and caboose just fine around the SG42 oval. I don’t know if the addition of the hopper will push it past its limits or not. And now, of course, I am on the lookout for a tank car I can afford.

Did Flyer wind certain motors in certain engines to be better pullers than others? I have read somewhere that Liomnel did so.

Since I have posted pics of all my Flyer freight cars, I guess I should go ahead and post the caboose.

It’s hard to tell from the pick, but the ladder on the long side is broken away from the brass tab that holds it at the top. I need to find a replacement or try to solder it.
When I got the caboose, there was a short in the wiring. I have found the short and eliminated it, but I still need to make the light operational again.

Thank you!

Twenty years. It’s the second marriage for both of us (I’ll spare you the long stories), and both of us brought one son into this marriage.

Anyway, 20 years is now officially the “Rose and Tinplate” year

Blue streamlined cars appeared again in the 1939 catalog, this time in set #315

This time there were 3 cars in the set, they rode on 6 wheel trucks and there were no belly pans under the cars. With the 6 wheel trucks there was no room for the belly pans.

The consist was pulled by the 434 combination locomotive (numbered 432)and a Type XV tender. This is basically the same engine from 1938 renumbered as #432.

It too is a handsome set.

Really loving the stylish blue passenger cars, both the 4 and 6 wheel versions. Can’t say the steamers aren’t good looking either! Thank you for sharing, they’re gorgeous.
