The article is baloney… Rules require the operator have full view of what is in front and behind of the loco at all times when moving it.
And since its in the yard, whats the local yokel so worried about? If nobody is trespassing nobody will get hit. RC is only used on the yard switchers within the yards.
David’s right, the article’s a load of crap. They only operate in the yards where no one should really be in the first place (unless you’re a railfan[;)].
You both are full of crap. Know your facts before you spout off. UP is/was using remotes on transferrs. Not necessarily does somebody have to be on the point…ever heard of an activated remote control zone? This is the kind of stuff that gets old. BTW they are worried about a hazmat release.
and yes, I’m RCO qualified.
What management’s rules are and what management’s expectations are can be two polar items. Sure, we want someone to watch the point of the move at all times, wink, wink. What we don’t know about won’t hurt us or get you fired. You say you need to ride the point on a pull and then walk back 75 cars before you can begin switching?!?!? Well, no one else needs to do that sort of garbage, you are the only one. Now you have to go along to get along so just do it the way you are told to or we can make your life miserable, but you know I didn’t say that and will deny it if you tell anyone.
Sound familiar to anyone?
ahhhh, yes.the old pull the wool over the eyes trick.you must understand in the corporate world everything is ok to do in the name of greater profit .the greater the profit the more money that goes into the pocket of greedy uper management people.on the other hand when the worker wants alittle more money to pay his bills we cant aford it because the profits are not high enough.welcome to the corporate world
