Programming OLD MRC 300 Series Decoders ....

I have a bunch of old MRC 300 series (315 ?) decoders that I’m going to use to control the markers on my cabooses. They work fine for what I’m doing with the exception the white and yellow wires are programmed to be directional. I have no instructions with these - can they be set for non-directional ??? Where would I find the CV programming instructions for these old decoders ??? HELP !!!

Mark.

Did you try the MRC site? I found this there:

These decoders are even older than what their discontinued items lists.

They are strictly a one (maybe two) function 14 step decoder - the first they made. As they stand, function 1 turns on the headlight(s) depending on the direction setting. I’d like to remap the front and rear to an individual function if this is possible with these decoders.

I seriously doubt they can be programmed for that. Those old decoders only support a limited set of CV values, and have to be programmed in Register mode anyway - there’s no real direct access to a particular CV number. You CAN drive one load with both function wires - the function ‘outputs’ are current sinks, the voltage source is the blue wire. So you can connect the yellow and white together, and connect to one side of a bulb, and connect the blue to the other, and no harm will come to the decoder. If the white lead is ‘on’, lamp will light. if the yellow lead is ‘on’, the lamp will light. if both are on - the lamp will light.

Thanks Randy - I was able to get them to work as you described. As far as a decoder goes, they are virtually worthless for controlling an engine by todays standards so they will be relegated to strictly a remote single function on / off switch for my caboose fleet. I got eight of them years ago for free, so the price was right !!!
