During a recent visit to my LHS I saw a number of Proto 1000 50’ Evans high roof boxcars that I qaualify as billboard cars. I saw several cars with advertisements for LIFE Magazine in 1930 and 1960 and if I remember correctly with advertisments for the musical Orphan Annie a.o. These were very colorfull boxcars but I wonder if there are prototypes for these cars of if they are just imaginary fun cars. Apparently no one wants them because they were marked down heavily.
You hit the nail on the head. There were marketed by Life-Like as ‘collectable’ 4 packs, IIRC. I see these all over at train shows. Some vendors still think they have collectable ‘value’ and have super high prices on them. A friend was trying to sell them at several train shows and got no ‘bites’. He stripped off the trucks/wheel sets and used them elsewhere…
