PRR branch from Hagerstown, MD to Winchester, VA

Does anyone here have any information on this branch??? I know it is now owned by the Winchester & Western RR, but I am looking for information, photos, steam rosters… when it was PRR.
Thanks.

Christov,
Have you queried the Pennsylvania Railroad Technical & Historical Society ?:

Perhaps they or their appropriate chapter can help you.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I did ask the same question to them, and never got a response.

Christov,
Possibly the softbound book from Arcadia Publishing about railroading around Hagerstown might have some useful information:

Also, have you checked with the crew at the Hagerstown Roundhouse Museum:

This branch was originally the Cumberland Valley Railroad built in the 1870s or 1880s. In 1917 the Pennsylvania Railroad took over the CV. I grew up in Martinsburg and the line in the 60s and 70s was basically 2 through freights a day between Hagerstown and Winchester. An SW1 switcher was based at CUMBO yard, a yard that was built along side the mainline of the B&O. A lot of coal was transferred between the 2 lines. The SW1 did a lot of switching in various plants like the Interwoven plant (textiles) and National Fruit. There was a great bit of switching around Martinsburg at one time. GP9s were the power on most of the freights that I remember. Reading T-1s used to run down from Hagerstown to CUMBO for the coal drags. Also RS3s were leased and ran the freights to Winchester on occassion. There is a book by Paul Westhaver, if you can find it “The Cumberland Valley” that he wrote in the late 70s. E-mail me at jenersea@adelphia.net and I will let you know anything else you need to know that I can provide.
