My sugestion would be to forego the use of the PRR keystone and instead use the shoulder patch of the Pa National Guard Division (I believe it’s the 28th Inf Dvn). It consists of a red keystone w/o any numbers or letters. As a govt. logo it’s not subject to copyright.
Believe it or not , it belongs to some inxurance company in the midwest/ This came up on the PRR historival site some years ago. I thoink the name is American General or American insurancew or something like that.
The firm in question is American Property Underwriters (I think) and is the surviving corporate shell of the Penn Central Company after the various railroad assets were sold off. This would explain how they hold the rights to the PRR logo.
FIVE stripes I say FIVe stripes!! I don’t think you have anything to worry about if you just went ahead and do it becasue it is for personal usage. If you were going to open a paint shop and sell the paint jobs I would advise you to make ceratin you have approval. The copyright laws allow you to hand copy anything that is copyrighted for personal usage.
This may be a trademark issue. Copyrights expire, trademarks have a different set of rules for how long they last. If this is your car and you aren’t painting other people’s cars, then I wouldn’t worry about it.
Enjoy
