First day working FY I found out you don’t set a thermos on the desk top and go outside to inspect a passing train and expect to see the thermos still on the desk.
In the pre-EPA days the plant on Herr’s Island that processed various animals into hides and ‘industrial proteins’ - at 6 PM daily they would pump their liquid wastes directly into the Allegheny River. If the wind was out of the North and you had not already consumed your lunch - with the stench you would end up taking your lunch home as trying to eat with the smell in the air you would bring up the contents of your own stomach.
