hey people… this is my issue… i have an overland models brass N scale locomotive… due to a minor accident with it while transporting it… one of the sun visors came off the side of the cab… the problem i need help with is a way to get it back on without risk of damageing the paint… any one have any ideas?

Presuming that you don’t have access to a resistance soldering unit, I would suggest using the product JB Weld. A fine bead would reattach your sun visor without messing the paint up too badly. Being as you would have about 14-16 hours dry time, you would be able to clean any ooze-out off the visible surface with no trouble. JB dries with a nice dark gray color-looks almost like an oxidized solder joint. Minimal touch-up would finish the job. That is probably what I would do in such a situation. Hope this helps.
CA cement applied with a tooth pic to the back side of the visor.

Both suggestions about using glue make sense. I’d forget about soldering, since even resistance soldering will damage the paint. Besides the likelihood of heat damage, you need bare metal to compete a circuit for resistance soldering.
Good luck,
Andy
I concur with Rick - JB Weld your best bet for this sort of repair - even if you do hve a resistance soldering set given that the model is painted.
i have thought about soldering it…but i was worried about the heat messing up the paint… JB weld is a bit much for the surface area that i have to work with… something that is liquid that i can get better pin point controll over would be ideal… so would my best bet be CA?

You may want to call Overland Models and talk to Brian Marsh and see what his take is on it. I have had to call them about some things in the past, and they are very receptive and helpful.
If you do use CA, use the the thick gel type, you should also get some CA accelerater (ZipKicker is one brand) to instantly cure the joint once you have the part positioned.
I would not recommend the thinn stuff in this case, too easy for it to run all over the place. You can also use a piece of wire instead of a toothpick for better control.
you wouldnt happen to have a contact number to reach him directly do you?
and thanks for everyone elses help too… hate to see that engin of mine missing that side sun visor… payed a nice penny for it…

I would use Elmer’s Epoxy. JB weld in those small quantities sometimes doesn’t cure all that great. Keep in mind it was developed as an industrial agent, and it is damn good at that.
I am not wild about CA. It often leaves a white stain larger than the spot where you put it.
Elmer’s (or equivalent) dries semi clear, has a fairly high strength in a thicker coat than CA, and a very little bit does a lot, and it sticks like, well… glue, to everything.
