I live in Brunswick MD and CSX has a large switching yard here. Today I saw a train with three engines on it. Two big CSX engines and a little blue engine with white stripes on it and the letters CEFL on the cab. I think it was a GP-40. I’m not sure. They where hooked to a coal drag with the little engine on front. Anyone have any ideas?
White stripes, running at a angle, top to bottom, in the middle of the long hood, with a green stripe in the center of the wider white stripes?.
Whole locomotive really boxy, square cab, with a white roof?

It was probably a leased engine.Csx uses them through Defiance all the time.

Are you sure it eas CEFL, and not CEFX? It sounds like one of those CIT lease-fleet units, lettered CEFX.
Next time, if possible, numbers would help.
I think that your right, it was CEFX. The stripes where as you described on the long hood but I saw no green stripe. I am pretty possitive that the engine was a GP-38 or 40.
could it have been one of CSX’s old control cab road slugs. the easist way to tell is it will only have one cooling fan for the dynamic brake grids and no radiators. CSX had 80 built from old GP-30’s and 35’s back in the late 1980’s
Hi Tim,
E mail me, I think I may have a photo of your engine, and will send it to you.
