Question for those with Williams by Bachmann catalogues

Williams used to make some products that don’t appear to have made it over to the Bachmann production line (or at least I don’t see them on Bachmann’s website).

Does the current Williams by Bachmann catalog have the following:

  • Berkshire O-31 engines
  • O-27 semi-scale Hudson in C&O name
  • F7-AA in Florida East Coast name
  • 60’ Aluminum Luxury Liner passenger cars in Florida East Coast name

Thank you for your help.

Chris

Items in Florida East Coast colors:

  • BL-2 Scale Diesel (#203206) $199.95

That’s it, I’m afraid: don’t feel too bad - a bunch of my Lackawanna stuff disappeared too. [:(!]

Talked to someone yesterday about Bachman/Williams products and he said that Bachman is selling the old stock that Williams had on hand, not that much as Williams sold down quite a bit of inventory. It is possible that the FEC railroad passenger sets are not that popular. Bachman should be selling some new inventory within a few weeks or may even be selling new stuff now. However the guy that I bought my Williams trains from in the past won’t be selling the new Bachman stuff as he don’t know what his cost will be for the products from Bachman as he can’t buy straight from the factory anymore.

Last time the FEC had regular passenger service was 1964, right before the FEC strike by passenger workers for more money so FEC just did away with passenger service rather than pay higher salries to a money loosing proposition. At least that is what I have heard about FEC passenger service.

Chris and Lee,

Thank you for the information. Chris - Thank you for posting the product numbers.

Chris

FEC’s passenger service ended in 1968 (I lived in the melbourne area) and the passenger diesels were painted blue (I never saw any multi-color units) and even the lone BL2 I saw (sitting in a dead line) was blue.

Chris ~

FYI, the Florida East Coast BL2 in the Williams by Bachmann catalog is not blue, but the orange red/yellow stripes.

… and you’re very welcome! [:)]

Well, the blue diesel phase of FEC passenger service was the really tail end. All you’d need to model it would be a single cab unit and two coaches.

In the glory days it was the yellow and red, which looks snazzier.

Great information! Thank you.

There is a book called “Streamliners : history of a railroad icon” by Mike Schafer and Joe Welsh which has some nice bits of history about, and photos of, the various streamliner passenger trains. They include a copy of an advertisement poster used by the FEC in the early days. It’s pretty interesting.

I have been working on collecting passenger lines that passed through our area. The FEC passed through our area to and from New York via the Atlantic Coast Line. The ACL is still available, but it would have been fun to add the FEC too.

Chris ~

My understanding is that Bachmann plans to roll out different road names in a cycle, rather than keeping every Williams road name in stock. I hope this is true: we may be in luck in a year or two! [:-^]

If anyone has direct, detailed knowledge of Bachmann’s plans for the Williams line I’d like to hear it.

Thank you.
