I have heard that bulbs in Athearn Genesis F units running on DC burn out fairly quickly. Is this true and what is the best replacement.
If they are older Genesis, and you had to replace the board, and they have the 1.5 volt bulbs, they will burn out as soon as it hits the track. Depending upon the decoder in the engine, you can do one of three things. 1. Replace the bulbs with 14volt bulbs, 2, use one of the new LED’s with a resistor or 3, put a resistor in line with current 1.5 volt bulbs depending upon the chart that comes with the decoder and the voltage on the track…
If it is the new Genesis, and you use their board, and just plug in the DCC decoder to it, you should be OK.
The Genesis engine use a 1.5v bulb and the have a habit of burning out. You can get more of these bulbs from Athearn, but I have been using Circuit Concepts micro bulbs that seem to last a lot longer(available through Walthers). I am currently trying LED’s and plan to use that in all of my future engines.
