Ok, I have 3 sets 5 , of the double 48 foot container cars, or well cars. My question is, What size wheel do the run, 28", 33" or 36"?
ANy directions would help alot. Everyone in my club has given me a different opionin with godo thoughts, but no one knows for sure.
I have also posted this on the Trains mag forum

i use all metal 33" wheels it adds waight and thay run verry nice but i am all so not shure if thats what should be on them
Thrall cars that are drawbar connected use 33"
Huskystack drawbar connected cars also use 33"
Huskystack articulated cars use 33" on the ends and 36" on the articulated units because of the greater weight of 2 units sharing one truck.
28" are usually used on 2 axle “front runner” cars and some 89’ tofc flats.
I’m sure there are some oddballs but I believe this is a good general rule.
I would also go with metal wheels, there are lots of arguments about which is better and rolling quality vs plastic but if nothing else I just like the clicking sound.
tigerstripe is right - the single double stacks (and the drawbar 3-unit sets) use 33in wheels, the Maxi-III 5-unit sets use 36in wheels on the intermediate trucks and 33in wheels on the end trucks. This is true for Athearn models anyway, I’ve not had to rewheel any other brands yet.
Great info[:D]. I got the same info over on the Trains.com board. Now I know. All though, I think I will just use 36" all the way around.
I have the older Athern Blue Box 5 car packs. But they came with wheels that were 33". I was goig to go can change the wheels and asked if 33 was the right sized, then it touched off ahuge debate among th club.
I knew I could count on the board. Thanks again

Some have 38" wheels on the intermediate trucks (125T nominal), with 33" on the end trucks (70T nominal).
You will have to research your particular prototype to be sure.
