Question on MTH Z4000 Transformer

I have been reading a lot on the train forums about transformers and have noticed all the high remarks on the MTH Z4000. My question is that I run only LIonel postwar and Williams in conventional and I was wondering if the Z4000 will operate the horns and whistles on postwar as well as the horns and bells on Williams without a problem. Also, do both handles on the Z4000 have a common ground Thanks

I love my Z-4000. It will trigger PW whistles and horns and will work with Williams. However, I am not sure whether the variable outputs have a common ground. Others more knowledgeable may chime in.

John

The Z4000 if it is like the Z1000 should work all current horns & whistles to include Williams, my Z1000 works great with all my Williams engines. You may have to press the horn or bell button for three seconds and release with the Williams engines.

Far as post war whistling tenders you may have a problem as the tender usually can’t tell if the signal is a whistle or bell and may sound off with either button.

Far as having a common ground you will need to ask somebody that has one or email MTH. I have enough smaller transformers to use for accessory power so I don’t need the Z4000 as it only has two outputs that go to the track.

The Z4000 “grounds” (the AC common post - black) are internally tied together.

Why would this be important?
