Question regarding Sunset Models Brass

Hi all,

I’m currently in the process of doing up a HOn3 Sunset Models brass C-16. I was wondering if Sunset Models have any sort of known issues with power pickup? This was an issue on another Sunset Models loco I had as well, which was eventually sold off.

The C-16 runs perfectly when DC is applied directly to the motor, but when running on DCC hardly moves at all. I made sure to isolate the decoder before testing on DC.

Thanks in advance,

tbdanny

They are no worse than the others that pick up power from 1 side of the engine & the other side of the tender. The narrow gauge engines are lighter & thus may stumble more over dirt on the tracks. May want to install pick up shoes.

I’ve got several Sunset Brass steamers. For me the real problem is that they are very light in weight. That detracts a lot from pulling power and sometimes it’s hard to get the leading and trailing trucks to track well. Older ones have an “anonymous” can motor that can burn out under strenuous service and need replacing. The detail is generally good and the price can be favorable relative to other brass pieces and the newer plastic engines. Good luck with yours.
