Question - Walther's Modern Roundhouse/machine shop - Help

If I fasten the machine shop to the roundhouse as per instructions, it appears that the track angle will not line up with the turntable. If that is true, how is the angle corrected. I could put a 10 degree bend in the track but that seems strange. What am I missing???

Art,

You didn’t miss a thing. You have two choices; align the machine shop track with the turntable and have some space between the roundhouse and machine shop, or you set the machine shop next to the roundhouse, set the front of the building a little further back from the turntable and curve the lead from the turntable to the machine shop track.

Page 440 of the walthers 2008 catalog has a photo of the roundhouse with the machine shop track curving between the door and the pit.

When it was announced I thought that was a nice looking model but I didn’t buy it. Maybe I’m crazy but it was designed for “compact use” with no approach from the turntable to the stall doors. That may affect the angles of the stalls, add-on kits, etc.

You need to have the bend if you fasten the machine shop to the roundhouse. I thought about having mine as a separate building but I thought it looked better attached.

I just purchased one to go with my roundhouse. Do you have any pointers for me? I look forward to building it and using it with my roundhouse.[:)]

I kitbashed the machine shop to go with my earlier era roundhouse and 90’ turntable. I think it is a very nice kit. Good molding and the parts fit well. To better go along with the smaller roundhouse and to better fit my space I cut about 5" from the length and about 2.5" from the width of the main part of the building. I did not alter the boiler house section. And I angled the track from the TT to the machine shop entrance.
