Has anyone seen this video? Is the quality of the videography top-notch? Do most segments appear to have been shot by professionals? Is there a very informative voice-over? I rarely buy videos, but this one’s kinda calling to me.
I’d also be interested in comments on this book by Fred Frailey. Is it mostly re-treads of Trains articles? I have only gotten Trains for about the last four years (Classic Trains, much longer), so if the articles are from before then, I might not mind. What I don’t want is a compilation of Fred grousing about the industry, like I’ve seen in recent years.
Amazon has 14 of 14 5-star ratings and five perfect 5-star reviews … including one from Liz Frailey and one from the guy who wrote the foreword… [:-^]
It’s 46 little ‘short stories’ or ‘anecdotes’. He says explicitly in the Introduction that it’s a sampler of material published in Trains over the years.
I bought the video and the book, and was pleased with both. Frailey is an excellent writer. I don’t always agree with his point of view, but he’s very good at what he does. And some of his less business-oriented accounts are simply good stories. The video is a good overview, and gives me a chance to see in action many locomotives that I’ll never see in person. I’ll watch it from time to time.
