Radial benchwork, mini tutorial with pictures

Hi guys,

This is the method I use on my D&RGW layout to build benchwork in curves.

First I attach a 1 by 2 inch in the center of the curve (from one side to the other), with a screw in the middle to get a ‘floating’ center:

Then I drill a hole in another 1 by 2 inch and fasten a pen, make the hole bigger then the pen and use masking tape to fasten it:

The 1 by 2 inch is the length of your (fascia) radius, draw lines while holding the 1 by 2 against the screw in the center:

When I’m ready it looks like this:

Unscrew the wood and use a saw to cut the pieces at an angle, screw them back again:

The result is a 100% perfect benchwork where you can attach the fascia. It’s also very easy to attach risers and spline roadbed with this method.
