Rail History

Are there any good websites that are filled with history. Im working on a project and I need some info on the Union Pacific Geneva Subdivision. I know Carl was going to maybe help me out but I would like to do some research of my own.

Have you tried your library? Look for books on the Chicago & North Western, or perhaps Chicago railroads. Our line is Chicago’s first railroad–take it from there!

Maybe your state has online archives with the info. I know our Provincial Archives here in B.C. have 1000s of photos of Canadian RRs and lots of other info on them also. You could spend forever just looking at the photo’s alone.

It’s former CNW, but I think a portion of it was known as the Air Line Railroad prior to CNW, at least the portion through Rochelle. Rochelle Railroad Park has a good history section on at least the portion through there, I would imagine much of the rest of the line is the same. http://www.rochellerailroadpark.org/history.html
