Rail Road camp Cars questions

Yesterday on my way back to appelton wi. at the rail yard in Neenah,i seen what i believe are camp cars ,or housing cars.As i was at the speed they drive there,it might have been two to a flat car or two on seperate cars . They looked new and nice. They were gone this AM when i went south again.Any one with some info on them.Do they stay on flat cars, self contained? Thanks in adavance.

That’s what they sound like. I have some picks of some which I’ll post later…you actually don’t see them that much anymore so nice find!

Some were built from reefers.

Yes they are living quarters for major construction crews.

They are motels on rails.

Indiana has issues with them.

Indiana is proposing laws to have them under better living conditions laws.

I have a ton of pictures of this camp car set if anyone is interested. They were trailors mounted on Conrail flats built in the 1930’s. I found them in Lula, GA (NS line) a couple of years ago.
