RAILCAMS

hi everybody . just wondering why all of the railcams i have watched have that jerky stop action picture . do they not make these cameras with smooth video feed? i watch the roanoke rail cam a lot , but sometimes the stop and start gets so bad i have to quit watching it RON

Bandwidth.

Full streaming video takes a fair amount of bandwidth and bandwidth costs money.

The camera and server may also share part of the blame. More money.

As the cost of bandwidth goes down and equipment needs to be replaced, I’m sure we’ll see improvement in picture quality.

Part of the problem may be in the path between the camera and your computer. Any latency (delay) issues will also mess with what you see.

Try this:

Smooth action, a continuous feed, not a shot every XXX seconds…[8D]
