Hi Y’All,
I am new to Trains.com. I have a son who is 2 years old and loves trains. We live in Austin, TX. We sometimes see the train alongside MoPac when driving in the car. Can anyone tell me where is a good place to go and sit and watch trains? Possibly even TOUCH a train? (Kenny really wants to touch a train.) Are the train schedules available to the public so we know when to go?
Any other info on acquainting a 2 year old with trains in Austin, TX is also welcome!
Thanks,
Kendra (Kenny’s mom)
Try going to New Braunfels to the old depot downtown. Trains come by there quite often. They also have an old switch engine there (that he can touch!)
and a great museum inside the depot. You might try austin steam trains site. You can ride that one.

Kendra,
The Austin steam train runs from Cedar Pk every w/end all day long…Chk it out…austinsteamtrain.org…New Braunsfel also has a model train show at the depot in the fall I believe,so he could see them run and play w/them…Good luck,
Danny
There is also a great museum at the restored Santa Fe station in Temple, TX. The museum is on the second floor. There are several static displays of equipment outside. They are available to touch. If you are into exquisite wood work, the ground floor of the restored station is beautiful.
