Railfanning in Nashville

I’m going to be on vacation in Nashville next week and was just wondering if there’s any railfanning to be had in the area. I believe we’re staying in a resort about 10 miles north of downtown. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ross R

CSX maybe NS

Nashville is mostly CSX, and regional Nashville and Eastern.

Check out the ex-L&N Union Station. It’s now a hotel, and has a “public-like” balcony that overlooks the tracks of Kayne Yard. This is Downtown, off of Broadway.

If exploring the Radnor Yard area, be alert for bad neighborhoods. If you hit the industrial sections near Radnor, the civilians will give you the eye as you drive by, hehe.

Have fun,
Matt

Heavy freight action is on the CSX/L&N lines. Heaviest may be the SW line to Chattanooga. Be aware that part of the north side near Goodletsville & Gallatin is closed due to the tornado damage of the past week. If you have time, check out the TCry Museum. Also, the G scale layout in 100 Oaks Mall.

Another site 100 miles west is the Casey Jones Village in Jackson, TN. THey will be holding a 50th ann celebration. Coming from the West, it makes a good place to stop & get some southern cooking. THey have the Casey Jones home on site with an old steamer made to look like Casey’s.

A good “free” site is the Yellowjacket in Centennial Park. Bring your camera for pictures of the Parthenon. Make time to go inside & see Athena.
