This was a wonderful Christmas story that my dad told me as a child. Dad didn’t know a lot of the details, but I was able to authenticate it and add photos. The story was included as a sidebar in my book, Railroading on the Wabash Fourth District. I fear if not for my diligence and those that were willing to share, this wonderful account would have probably been lost to history.
