I am retiring from the military and seeking employment with a railroad in the Reading, Allentown area. Does anyone know which railroads I should be looking into?
i dotn know so much about that area…but NS was hiring trainmen in harrisburg…and the western part of the state…and csx is still hiring for the western part of the state…

Check with the Superintendent with NS Allentown Yard. He should be able to tell you if they will be hiring in that area. In Reading you might also want to check with the Reading & Northern.

Doesn’t any Rail America or Genesse and Wyoming lines run around that area?
I there are a lot of Freight Railraoads in the Reading Area
Reading Northern Norfolk Southern Canadian National Septa and Amtrak in Philadelphia area are always looking for people I think go to there websites for more info.
BNSF is hiring big time in the Chicago area. I start with them in January!

CN with NS’ help (NS train) runs a train between Toronto and Allentown PA (335 to PA, 334 from PA) but CN takes it as far as NS Bison in Buffalo where it turns into a NS train.
Might what you have seen be pool power? I think CN runs to New York City area because of the Central Vermont line but that is as far as they go to my knowledge.
Yes the 30T/31T are CN run throughs but they are NS trains with NS crews on NS and RBMN or CP rails. Since we are talking about employment here, there are no CN employees involved south of Buffalo.
CN doesn’t get into NYC. Even the former Central Vermont (CV) which is no New England Central (NECR) a Rail America property gets only as close as New London, CT a LONG way from NYC.

Doesn’t or didn’t CN run an intermodal from either Toronto or Montreal via th CV line into New York somewhere? I could have sworn it was a South Kearny NJ run.
30T and 31T run from Montreal to Harrisburg now, the 12T and 13T run from Buffalo and Allentown, replacing the 30T and 31T. CP runs into Allentown via trackage rights. I’m sure NS will be hiring crews in the A-town area soon. CSX is pretty close to Reading and Allentown as well.
12T and 13T are already running and have been foe about 2 years. I wouldn’t expect any extra hiring for these pools.

Not in my lifetime. Such a route would have to go over the NEC from New London in northern CT all the way through Penn Station and into Jersey. Never happen.
