Railroad Slogans

Thanks for the corrections. I remebered the Chattanooga bit in the middle of the night. But I still think “Everywhere West” would be a great replacement for the name BNSF. Anybody else agree?

Nickle Plate Fast Freight (or something like that)

L&N: “The Dixie Line.”
Monon: “The Hoosier Line.”
gtr

My favorite is the Upper Middle Belt Railroad: “Service Followed by a Reasonable Invoice.”

Grand Rapids & Indiana was “The Fishing Line”

My favorite is Union Pacific’s current slogan “Building America”.

Remember the Royal Gorge Route.

I like it!

Don’t know if they ever painted it on a boxcar, but the Atlantic Coast Line called itself the “Standard Railroad of the South”. They also used “Another Cushioned Load” on some of their boxcars, using the initials.

Seaboard Coast Line - “Service Customers Like”

Missouri Pacific - “Route of the Eagles” (between 1982 and 1989 there were still a few boxcars around that carried this slogan).

Chattahoochee Industrial RR - “Better by a Dam Site” (it runs near a reservoir on the Georgia-Alabama border).

Atlanta & St. Andrews Bay - “The Bay Line”.

Seaboard Air Line was something like “through the heart of the south”

CIRR’s was always my favorite!!! [:D]

I believe David Morgan’s favorite was the Bonhomie and Hattiesburg Southern which used “Save time and money by missing bedlam and confusion”. He thought those were digs at Memphis and New Orleans.

Here’s a doozy:

The Penn Central Railroad was considering the adoption of the motto:

“Have You Tried Penn Central Service Lately?”

during the 1970s when stations were embargoed, cars or cuts of cars were lost, and its meltdown was in full force. Fortunately, the motto was never adopted.

I’m here, just a little behind schedule (not unlike some current passenger service[;)])…luckily MC picked up the ones that I would have added: DRGW “Scenic Line of the World” and “Mainline Through the Rockies”… just like my coffee mug says!

Several years ago, the HO layout in the basement of the Colorado Railroad Museum included a light plane which had apparently crashed on a mountainside. Nearby was a sign that said “Through the Rockies, not into them.”

The Guayaquil and Quito Railroad (G&Q) in Equador was inoficially called the “Good and Quick”. It’s the railroad that runs around the famous Devil’s nose.

I’m sure people tired and tried and tried…

Though, CSX is my favorit modern day railroad I’m going to have to give it up to UP for their “Building America” slogan. Go to UP’s web site and look at the way they present their slogan, it’s beautiful. Just those two words tell so much about UP’s core values.
I also like the following:
C&O’s for Progress and C&O’s “Sleep like a Kitten”.
I mabe up a slogan for my railroad called TXPA. “The Rail Awaits You”.

Another one of Southern Pacific’s slogans was “The Friendly Southern Pacific.”

SP had a few more:
Four scenic ways west.
Golden Pig service(on trailers).
Northern Pacific:
Route of the Vista Dome North Coast Limited.
New York Central:
The Water Level Route…You can sleep.
Milwaukee Road:
Route of the electrified Olympian Hiawatha.
