Railroad town names...

I need to get a concrete name for my railroad town so I can make a template for airbrushing a town logo onto my locos and some rolling stock. So just post em if you have some good ideas! Thanks!

HAHA! (except not!)

Do you mean a name for your railroad?

How about Beegleville.

i was joking mate, as ndbprr said ^

Seems to me that would depend on if you are modeling a particular area, city or countryside in your layout. Then names come fairly easily.
There actually is a town named Concrete up here in Washington state. I’m sure the folks in that town would like to have you model their city…
As for names…how about some hints as to your layout? What industries ( town name could be based on industries…) Do you have a harbor or river running through the layout. The river /harbor and town could all be along the same framework of names.

(North,South)Canterville, South (north)paw,Tinplate.
Dekruif town[:D]

what about trying the name Wheaton Rail line.

My favorite - Disputanta.

John Allen suggested silly, crazy names, my choice. Many people use real names from a prototype. Some use really off beat prototype towns, ghoat towns or tiny hamlets. Some name town and places after friends, my mountians and canyons are my children and g-children. You need to pick a style and then we will help you be as silly or prototype as you like.

Open to the index pages of your state map and start picking. WV has some cool town names.

How about Chipendale? A play on words for Chip and Dale. I have used Podunk Junction, Buzzard Butte, and Coyote Canyon on a western layout.

That’s funny because I have been trying to come up with a name for the large city on my own layout for quite a while and nothing I have come up with sounds right. I’ve got names for the four small towns but have a real mental block trying to name my big city.

How about some of these?

Turner’s Corner
Coal Mountain
City of Industry
Asbestos
Mossy Creek
Shoal Creek
Between
Centerville
Brookton
Intercourse (Pennsylvania)
Mineral Bluff
Sautee Nacoochee (formerly 2 different places)

All these are real names of real locations in Goergia (except one). Can you imagine telling someone you live “in Between”? They would ask “between what?” I could only imagine something like Laurel and Hardy’s “Who’s on First” routine.

Between is about 25 miles East of Atlanta. City of Industry is about 30 miles Southeast of Chattanooga, near Dalton, Ga. Mineral Bluff is about 10 miles from the Tennessee Border, about 20 miles from Blairsville, GA. Coal Mountain is about 30 miles North of Atlanta, just off of Hwy 400. Some of these are not on any state map. but they are local names.

Look in any US Atlas and look in the back for all the city listings, and pick some names you like.

Frank Ellison named his major terminals after the street he lived on and the two nearest cross streets. Other cities bore the names of his children.

Your wife’s maiden name is a good peacekeeping move. (I named an entire railroad that way.)

You can also pick a name from a map, local or foreign.

As a last resort, pick a prototype town, then model its actual trackage and buildings.

Have fun, but always remember, it’s YOUR railroad. Put your stamp on it.

I’m modeling a 4’ X 8’ layout based on the town of Aleron. Is it real? No, just a combination of my 2 son’s names, Alex and Aaron, hence Aleron. And my biggest industry on the layout will be Aeronex Industries, again, combo of the names. Maybe a second industry on the layout named after my wife, Beeches Butchery?
