The water was so deep on the Choctaw sub I got a roll-by by a large mouth bass at Pilot Point, Texas!
We experienced the flooding in this area well before the Memorial Day weekend. Our venture aboard the Texas Eagle and Heartland Flyer was disrupted in mid-May at Ft. Worth, first sending us by bus to Oklahoma City, then back the following day on a bus, then continuing from Ft. Worth by bus to San Antonio. According to those we spoke with at Amtrak in Texas this seemed to be an everyday common experience at the time. So a 3-day disruption over Memorial Day seems minimal. From TV reports it looked as if they were under torrents of water EVERY day. Amtrak handled it all with grace and dispatch and the buses were fairly comfortable, though not on a par with the sleeper we paid for. Missing steak dinners vs. bottled water (aboard the buses). Not quite the same. If you ask at headquarters, Amtrak will compensate you but I reckon most folks don’t ask.
Wish I had the opportunity to go down and shoot coverage of the massive washout repair going on herein Coppell,TX on Fort Worth n Western’s former Cotton Belt Line between Carrollton and Fort Worth . It’s a massive operation over the last several days. No place to easily pull off and shoot pics without getting in the way, plus I’ve been working extra hours due to the storms. But interesting nonetheless…
