Rare Look At Seal Beach Weapons Station Railroad

View of the display train in Seal Beach today. Sort of a rare look, if not the best of views. Sadly this operation is very short lived at this point.

Oh, Lord, not the white boxcars again!

Here’s another shot… this one from the flying bridge of the USS McClusky.

Sorry - I’m not that bright.

Here’s the link – This shot came out much better, I think… showing the Navy ship too.

I agree, this shot is a little better than the first one, which is very commendable. It’s nice to see the Mighty Mac paying a visit to SB. She is a familiar sight here in the bay if you are lucky enough to see her on the move, and it’s really nice to see a surface ship named for a Naval aviator.

I can recall in the late sixties driving by the Seal Beach depot and seeing hundreds, maybe thousands of underwater mines stacked up, no doubt left over from long ago conflicts. I suspect they have been decomissioned and scrapped by now. That was a pretty busy venue about that time, I suspect, and that little engine probably got a lot of work then.

I think I see shackles!!

Photo reminds me of the trains I saw daily at NSWC Crane (IN) outside my office, when I was working a contract there. Crane used EMD switchers and loads of those old USN gray 40’ and 50’ boxcars to shuttle ordinance around the base.

Seems like the only way to see old post-war boxcars anymore, outside of museums, Way past their interchange dates.

Thanks for sharing.
