RDC's spotted

3 RDC units spotted on siding in Garibaldi, Or. , back in January and now gone, anyone know where they went and who owns them. Also why on a siding in Garibaldi, a little fishing town on the Oregon coast?

Could they be the ones they used out of Portland a few years back for the Lewis and Clark celebration? Ran to Astoria and back?

“+1” to what Don said - I had the same thought. Garibaldi is about 40 - 50 miles south of Astoria, though, and there’s no direct straight-line rail connection. But I believe that Garibaldi is on the route of the Port of Tillamook Bay Railroad, which has been damaged and embargoed since 2007 or so - see: http://www.potb.org/femaprojects.html - so that may be why they’ve been moved out, “while the getting out was good” and before the line deteriorated any further. As to where they went - those are so rare and conspicuous and identifiable, someone somewhere must have noticed and posted it on the Internet. - Paul North.

Did notice they had a job open!

Thanks for activating the link, Sam [tup] - that computer won’t do it yet - Google Chrome issue of some kind, I suspect.

By the way, the ‘open position’ is for one of the Commissioner seats, not as employment. Without the railroad component, don’t think I’d be much interested . . . . [:-^]

[8D]Cool, Paul!

Although I find it hard to believe that someone in service on a Political Position would work for free…

I would expect there is some wayto extract compensation…[oops]

Better not go there, Norris would come down here, and shoot me in the face with a Bazooka![#offtopic][soapbox][banghead]

[alien]Well, I gues while I’m off the Reservation and completely off topic[#offtopic]

Speaking of off the Reservatuion! I thought I’d share this with you. I know the British Military trained tthem (and did a heckofa job, I think they have gotten a little wild, and crazy and creative ,as well- It is kind of interesting)

I guess I’ll go out and cut a switch for Norris or Crandell[:-^]

Boy: these guys could make the North Koreans look like a bunch of school kids!

Maybe the rest of the world should take a lesson from the Wagah border ceremony, the exaggerated uniforms and marching sure beats killing each other.

Anyone find out @ those RDC’s?

I think that is right. Didn’t they come from the Alaska Railroad? Possibly from BCR. The June issue of R&R (are we allowed to say that?) announced the complete overhaul of six “VIA Rail Canada” Budd RDCs. Good news! I don’t know where the six are coming from, but Industrial Rail Services of Moncton, NB is doing the work. Last time I went to IRSs website, they had about 30 RDCs for sale. The “Dent Man” might want to check them out. I’m sure they know how to pull moose-antler dents out of stainless steel! I love RDCs!

Hays

Tri-Met in Portland, OR bought 2 RDCs from the Alaska Railroad (ARR) to

eventually use in the commuter service they recently started, using the

last Colorado Railcar DMU set built. Sad to say, CRC is history.

See the current Passenger Train Journal, Vol. 33, No. 2, Issue 243.

Frank Keller’s story is about ARR’s selling off its RDCs and its new

“RDC of the future”, a Colorado Railcar DMU.

Long live the Budd RDC.
