I wasn’t too clear on a question I asked last week or so regarding foam scenery. Let’s see if I’m more clearer here. I have a cookie-cutter table top and was planning on using foam for scenery. The cookie cutter already has raised/lowered areas since I used risers. Now the cookie-cutter area which is 5/8" plywood is nailed down. Since I want to use foam, should I place 1" or so foam under the entire layout (under the roadbed/track as well), or place foam around the roadbed/track and apply scenery adjacent to the roadbed/track directly to the plywood? My empire is growing like an epedemic increasing another foot from 12’ by 7’ to 13’ by 7’. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Steve [:D]
There is very little particular reason to place foam UNDER the cookie-cut plywood.
However, you might want to use foam to raise the elevation ONLY where you want it to be higher than the surface of the plywood.
Since it is easier to cut into foam than plywood, you might want to use a small thickness of foam on top of much of the plywood to create a slightly higher “general” elevation level that you can easily cut into for slightly lower ditches, drainageways, etcs.
That makes sense, I have all the elevation I need although I don’t have any drainage areas. I guess I have to make a descision on whether to cover the entire layout or not. Since I already have a determined elevation throughout the layout, adding foam under the roadbed only in certain areas would mess up the grades…so I guess I have a lot of think’in to do. Thanks, Steve
Steve;
Put foam everywhere.
This does make sense, only drawback is making sure my cuts match pretty close to the cookie-cutter.
