RE:Coffee Pot #5 May 2012 6 years [April 1 is Anniv.] and going strong and its for all to chat. Plenty of coffee and sweet ice tea for all. Come and join us and chat. GRITS for the Yankees.

Good evening everyone. Stopping by for a sip… Did some work on some buildings and hoping to get some projects far along so they can go on the layout. Just finished cooking some brownies, so after violin practice, we are going to dive into those puppies! Don, glad you were not held responsible for the damage. Hope the new girl works out. I can only imagine what an interesting character could entale.

Joe, may be better off just picking up a cheap locomotive to handle the HO duties. I have a bunch of HO stuff I will eventually do something with. One thing is a Rivarossi big boy that I would like to see stretch it’s legs a bit.

Better get going. God bless,

Dennis

V8VEGA … DO YOU TURN THE MONITOR OFF ? … IF IT’S NOT A FLATSCREEN MONITOR IT USES ALOT MORE POWER THAN THE COMPUTER …

56 and cloudy. We were suppose to get sun and 70s, never made it. Just had a short chat with Doug M. he seems to be doing ok. The yard was too wet to cut so I just goofed off around the house today. No Banilla but maybe later…S.J.

Not sure how old your system is but I normally turn mine off if I have no planed use for about a hour or so ( never know when a thunder storm might pop up. )

Evening all so far talking to Doug waiting for the rest of the crew were just circling between MO. and MI. making a big loop [(-D]

Rain all day so off to the shed where I was goofing around today on a project for fifedog and a upright tank for me.

Later

I turn my laptop off except when I expect to be back to it shortly. I see no reason to leave it on, even in sleep mode…S.J.

Good Evnin’ Ya’ll From Rainy and Dreary Taxachusetts,

Much needed rain is upon me.

Well it is finally my turn for the crud. Woke up yesterday AM feeling like something was coming on…and it did. By noon my throat was sore, neck glands tender, one ear plugged, sniffles commencing, and my voice was fading. By late afternoon the laryngitis was complete and my voice totally gone, still is. Heavy dose of fluids, voice rest, a nap, an ear flush, and a couple of doses of ibuprofen…and by bedtime I was making a comeback. This one will probably take more than a few days to pass.

Drove the wifey and a couple of her co-workers to the airport early yesterday AM for a flight to Orlando and business. So I am a bachelor for a few days. Wifey called me from Disney last night to see how I was feeling, but I couldn’t tell her, told her I’d text her. I hate texting.

On a related topic, I picked up my first smart phone Saturday, the android-based LG Spectrum. Sorry **DougM…**no Apple iphone for me. My wife’s 4S has a miniscule 3.5 inch screen, but the LG has a relatively huge 4.5" which makes all visuals including the keyboard a lot more pleasant to use. My son set up a few things for me like the GPS navigation, the Linsky’s wireless. The 1080 HD video and 8 megapixel cameras will make the thing fairly functional. Started monkeying around with the video camera in bed Saturday night…wifey not amused. [:-^] Do you guys take out the insurance??? These suckers can be pricey to replace like if one drops or loses the phone…without all of the up front discounts and incentives. Had to sign a 2 year agreement and sign up for the minimalist Verizon data plan. I think I will take my local phone store’s SmartPhone 101 class to bring myself up to speed with this sucker after I have gone through th

Made it to May. Hallelujah!![:D] One of my clients just received a check for $21.5 Million for mineral rights so things are now going to get really busy. [8-|]

Good Evening All,

Had a “easy” day today, and now off for 3 days! [B]

“Now for the Rest of the Story,”

The new Fireman/Engineer is quite interesting, and certainly will be interesting how it unfolds. She is 58 and even though I’m older, I really wouldn’t want my wife doing this job. It can be very physically demanding, and not the working conditions I would want her in. But, putting that aside. The other factor is that it certainly appears that she may have been, at one time at least, had some gender confusion issues, and has taken some drastic actions. Most of the guys in the “house” are certainly letting her have her space, and no one has any desire to find out for sure. Unfortunately, she’s not getting off on the right foot, she told me she was “hired through the back door” and dropped a few names, not typically associated with the RR. Then, after the 2nd day of training her trainer was called down for “not maintaining a positive image of management to “new” employees”. (He now has a 3rd boot, only for a couple of days.) And, as she has some experience in a RR’s, offered her trainer a copy of the manual she had written elsewhere, which was not really appreciated. (The trainer is about 27, and can be quite critical for the first few days. For the most part training is done by the trial and error method, which contains mostly errors. It has reminded me somewhat of basic training. But, I just thought this is all a trial period and how much do I want this job? Short term I may need to stroke a few egos, and let them know I’m willing to listen. And things will work themselves out. Now that I’m into my 4th week, I was right. Attitudes have changed, I’m complimented more than anything else, and “offered” advice, or “let me show you a trick”. But the new person being hired by someone “outside” the RR, and has had previous administrative roles without actual equipment experience

**sj…**you posted 14 minutes ago and are already ten minutes behind reading posts… [swg]

Time for me to call it a night. Tried to call my mother to check on her but the line was dead. Could be one of two things. Something was wrong or the phone was off the hook. Either way I had to go down there and check it out. Turned ouy the phone was off the hook. She hadn’t hung it up properly the last time she used it today.

Knee hurts quite a bit after all the activity today but it’s stronger than it was yesterday and most of the bruising is gone.

See y’all tomorrow.

Thanks for the concern. I’m doing OK and making sure I don’t overdo it. The tractor was extricated from the marsh the night of the same day it got stuck there. My niece and her husband filled in most of the ruts while her husbands little brother got to fill in the deep holes left by the tractor. Now, we can’t have you going into Shell Station withdrawal so here’s a photo just for you.

I keep dozing off - prayers for John’s co-worker, Doug, Jean and the rest of us and our loved ones. Chewy is a lot better today, very much her old self. Kids have just a couple more weeks of school. My son has been flirting with bad grades in a couple of his classes - mostly from turning in his work late for some reason. He can’t seem to keep it in his head that he needs to turn it in, not just have it in his bag or in his locker. I sure hope he grows out of this phase, since he has always had really good grades before and he is in the advanced classes - maybe it’s a HS freshman thing. In the meantime, my daughter took the ACT along with HS kids (!) and scored in the top half-percent for 7th graders! She and two others will get awards at a school function in a couple weeks. They have a lower level ACT type test for 7th graders, but we paid so she could take the real deal test with the older kids. She is thrilled and we are very proud of her of course! Oh well, we shall see how this all plays out!

Don - you should have yelled out “Ramming Speed!”

TARDIS is ready and we have leftover pizza, Sobe drinks, rootbeer, and banilla. Let’s go Mike!

I crashed in the recliner a couple of hours ago. Good night and sleep tight.

Konbanwa,

The rain will not stop out here; I wish I could send it to a bunch of you guys. It is supposed to rain for the next six days or so. If that is true the baseball team will not have practice tomorrow or a game on Saturday. We didn’t have a specific meal planned for tonight’s dinner so I made some spam sandwiches for the princess and me. My wife and older son won’t touch it so they went to have a mother-son dinner at the burrito place on base. We should have a quiet evening ahead of us.

Jeffrey – I will give the Walters site a try. I don’t want to try the Bullfrog snot at this point because I want to be able to remove the traction tire and move it to other wheels if necessary to which works the best. I hope you able to move with less pain today.

Hi GUYZ,

57 here and rainy but gonna get to 77 and humid later. Perfect for a run in the woods. Again last nite picked off more ticks. Gonna be one of those years.

DON, %$#^ HAPPENS! Don’t beat yourself up too much. Remember you got your job to do and thats an important one, don’t want a major malfunction there.

BRUTUS, CONGAS for your DAUGHTER.

Stay frosty,

laz57

Good Morning

60% chance of showers and a high of 69F today…tomorrow? Dull and a high near 85F…

Yesterday’s run was an adventure…we had 4 people and 6 things happened…all leading to derailments…in fact, one happened right in the middle of Williston…it took out 3 RS2’s and 16 cars…plus…three stores and a tower…as well as an elevator…dang stuck control…another one took place at Sim’s Jtn…took out another RS2 and 4 cars…and a diner…all these incidents and accidents will have the photos taken with the circles and arrows with a paragraph written on the back of them

Don: I agree with laz here…I have to remind myself of that a lot as well…

laz: There are a lot of ‘things’ be floating around up here as well…

Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR…

It is a cloudy and humid 65 degrees. Rained last night. Going up to 82 today with a chance of rain.

Today is a busy day. I have the usual chores to do and a project to work on. I will be busy until lunch time. Then, a nap tis afternoon.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

Y’all have a great Wednesday.

Chuck

Morning from BoJangles. A hot 90’s day. Headed back to work on Box. Later

54 and cloudy, I might have to cut the grass while it’s still wet as rain is in the forecast all week. Me I shut my laptop down as I see no good reason to just leave it on. Now the TV’s, that’s different, they are on power strips that I turn off each night. They suck up a lot of wasted power. The only small inconvenience is a short wait for the cable box to reboot. I have also filled the house with curly light bulbs but didn’t notice any difference in our Edison bill. But there are just the two of us here.

Happy Hump Day to the working folk…S.J.
