Ok guys,
I was being a sarcastic jerk on purpose, so let’s try this in a more head on fashion.
What is the dollar value for a human life, stupid person versus smart one.
Seriously, how much is a human life worth?

…I won’t dwell on wheither the climbing should be done or not, especially on that high and dangerous mountain and in that severe wether they seemed to be having at the time…It sure is asking a lot of rescuers to put themselves in the same position though when something does go wrong.
But I must say this…Watching that double rotor helicopter hover for a half hour plus yesterday just down a bit from the top of Mt. Hood I was really concerned about the fellows operating that machine under such dire conditions…altitude, Wind, temp., etc…It really took skill to just keep everone alive that was being lifted up into that machine to bring them back down to the flatlands…I sure was relieved when they safely made it off that very dangerous position lifting up the rescuers to bring them down from the mountain.
All that cash come out of taxes, fines, and other things like that. So, if you have commited a crime in said jurisdiction, you would actually be helping fund this operation. And if they do as most counties do, they set aside cash for just such an occasion like this when they actually have to put on a massive search. Also, this is a multi jurisdictional operation, so more than one budget is funding it. If I recall, the storm hit a few days earlier than expected. So IMO they were just unlucky and got caught in it.
I do admit, I think that it might have been a reckless decision on thier part. But that is why we have theese organizations, so people can enjoy the country and if they manage to lose themselves out there, we have the resources to find them.
Plus, the people who are searching, aren’t up there because they are told to be there. They are up there because they are voulintarily willing to risk thier life, to save another. They know the risks, and do it anyway.
A little over a week ago we had some Calif whizbang take his wife and kid for a little drive on a remote mouintain road in an area noted for heavy snowfalls. Now we’ve got three whizbangs going for a hike 11000 ft up a mountain in December,. At the risk of sounding callous, it looks to me like we just did some skimming of the gene pool.
It saddens me that the one message of this season is so missing from many of the above listed posts.
"Peace on Earth and Goodwill to Men. "
Everyone at some point in their life makes bad decisions; miscalculations. To spend even so much as one more post on this topic that is anything but sympathy for the families who are hurting and whose grief must be unbearable will be a sad testament the state of humankind. Don’t think that if you admit you are being crass or callous that somehow it makes it okay. Meanness and this attitude that people get what they deserve serves only to fuel more meanness. It is not okay.
Every person errs. Every person will suffer the consequence or benefit of their decisions. That is the simple fate of any action. But the power of faith that so many of you openly confess to here in this forum states very clearly to love one another, not kick them when they are down. We are also told to take care of widows and orphans and not spend time on public forum telling them they are hurting because they married someone who made an error in judgement and that they deserve to hurt.
Peace on Earth and goodwill to men.
Well said!
Thank you!
No, make that the whole state, based on who we re-elected to another gubernatorial term.
I’d just like to see all of the cars in Northern Illinois with Wisconsin license plates pay the tolls like the rest of us. [:D]
Wait, Cheeseheads don’t have to pay tolls on the Tristate? Since when?
When all of Wisconsin is just a Chicago suburb. (unlike now when it’s just Kenosha and Racine counties.)
Will the cheeseheads still complain?
I’ve been going to Wisconsin on vacation my entire life. Back when Door county was a sleepy little bed and breakfest kinda place. My family and I are just as disgusted as the natives. Of course, the guys up in the north woods hate everyone south of the northwoods. Not everyone is mellow north of the tension line.
And lets not even get started on what cheeseheads think of those frickin Vikings fans invading from the north.
I’ve never seen anything less natural then Bears flags on Wisconsin lawns and packers flags on Illinois lawns.
On the topic at hand. I don’t mean to be callus towards the suffering people or families, I just don’t understand the motivation.
As a frequent visitor of Illinois, I can assure you that I pay the tolls every time. Every damn time. I even pay the ones that I don’t like.
Other than that, Illinois has the trains and Wisconsin has the beer. Seems like a fair trade to me.
Same here.
Not so much, you can have the beer!
Hey, you be careful of us Vikings fans or I just might have to change my avatar.
To all of our friends in Wisconsin…YA, HEY DARE (prounounced phonetically please), pass me anoher cheese curd, will 'ya?
Careful with those curds, my friend, or thou shalt end up way too pudgy like most of us from Wisconsin (the only state with sin as part of its name).
