Re: RE:COFFEE POT #8 August 2011 for all to take a drink and chat. 6+ years and going. Plenty of better coffee and sweet ice tea to drink. Plenty of GRITS and Cheerios for the heart.

Hi GUYZ,

Ran a 2 miler this morning already now have a dentist appointment. Then more pointing of stone veneer.

SPMAN, RAY the tubes should be replaced every 7-9 years. We are on year 11, total cost to replace all 79 tubes is 10G. They are only gonna replace the ones that are bad. Oh well?

Aloha - a beauty of a day here in Chicago. Jim, Marx from that era is wonderful. And the tinplate is ‘bullet-proof’ - enjoy! Francis Chan is a great guy, Dennis. I’ve read that book. Hope the family can get the other girl. Congrats on 1.6K Rich. Cabin fever is definitely part of infant-hood, Brent- at least you can spell each other - go out for a walk. That’s what we did for five weeks in Peru. In fact, I’m off to pick up that daughter tomorrow at Cedar Point. Laz, a friend of mine with the FRA says they track and inspect each steamer regularly. Not sure where the Lokie fits in that.

Mornin’ boys. Mornin’ English. Pretty day here in the Mid-Atlantic region. Made it through my first shift last night, although halfway through I was questioning my wisdom to return. Gets tough when your body starts fighting against you.

88 - I loathe bureaucrats.

Bakeer - Sounds like your problems on the mother isle are a precursor of things to come here in the New World. Hope I will have hung up my gun-belt before then.

laz/SPMan - I remember the boiler explosion on the Gettysburg. A lot of steam programs started reevaluating after that.

anjdevil - Looking forward to teaming up at YORK. Boat ride in order if you and your princess get down my way.

Good Morning

A very comfortable 70 degrees this morning. I have already been out shopping to replace the frying pan and flipper I ruined last week. No real plans for the day, I’ll just go with the flow…S.J.

Good morning all,

I worked for a few hours yesterday and then the family and I went to OKC to visit the OKC Memorial. It is very well done and extremely moving. After the memorial visit we all went to P.F. Chang’s for dinner. We don’t eat there too often but it is always very good. We had some rain and storms last night which made this morning’s three-mile run very nice. However, the wind was still gusting up to 30mph which did cause some drag since I was pushing the 1y/o on the stroller. I will only work a few hours today and then we will all go bowling.

The Yankees lost last night and the Sox won.

Good day,

Joe

Good morning all,

Dennis, I hope those folks in your story are able to adopt the other chinese girl. That story really tugs at your heart strings.[angel]

Laz, sounds pretty spooky to me but hope replaceing bad tubes only works out OK. I know that the big steam engines are shut down when their flu time runs out by the FRA.

My friend Bill Sellers was laid to rest yesterday in Georgia. Wish I could have been there.

Our little social group from church was suppose to have a get together in the local park last evening. Only 5 of us showed up. If the group keeps shrinking like this we will be able to hold the next meeting in somebody’s car probably. A lot of people are on vacation and stuff I suppose.

later,

Ray

Howdy all!

What a shame - just getting back into the swing of the Pot, and I’m headed up to NJ for four days of no web access. When I come back, the Pot will have expanded by 42 pages and I’ll never be able to catch.

Never got a chance to figure out Corey’s new Burro Crane, so that’ll have to wait until we’re back home. Oh well.

Finally the temps appeared to be headed down. Thank god, I’ve had it with this constant 90+ degree weather.

Jim,

This is great news! [tup] My congratulations to your daughter for her excellent taste in gifts.

Let me also offer a “Tip of the Fedora” as a welcome to the Tinplate “O Zone”

I knew that if I was persistant you would eventually come on over. [}:)]

Now all you need is a few pieces of Pre War Flyer Narrow Gauge to really set you on your way. They would look great on your Christmas layout with that Polar Express.

Its good to see you posting again too.

Fife,

Hello all!

I was without I-Net for over two months. Nothing happened other than I moved and lost I-Net with AT&T, now with Net Zero. The moving mess is over! Letting the house go back to the finance company, too expensive. Next year or the year after may move into something better if we can afford it. Had a moving sale last weekend and did really well, even sold the fridge![oops] Now somebody has to buy a new one.

But no layout for the trains.[:(] Finally got on with Net Zero today, must have an account set-up before attempting to use their disk in your comp.

Have a lot of stuff in storage, maybe a small temp layout.

Job situation is dismal; I may lose some time at work, as we were told to clock out after coming in from the lane and going to the counting room. Wife is losing an hour a day, or going to 30 hours a week. Hope things go better for me soon.

Lee F.

Good Afternoon Ya’ll from Ever Changing Weather Taxachusetts,

Serious rainstorms overnight, and today has been unsettled off and on. At least we got a good soaking before dawn. And my better half, who sleeps like the dead, even was awakened by the racket. Took on no water, so all is good.

Brent, while you are indeed trapped awaiting the movement of red tape, at least you are trapped with your wife and your special bundle. Not a bad pair to be trapped with. [tup]

**SJ…**sorry to hear that Granny needs a knee replacement but glad she has decided to move forward on it. It looks like “goofing off” may be removed from your schedule for a while. [swg]

**Fife…**get well. Man this is hanging on!

**RaySP…**you were there in spirit. Sorry for your loss.

**Rich…**doesn’t it drive you nuts when you learn stuff by reading FB> What ever happened to the telephone? Good news no matter what.

**JoeyD and AF Ray…**what on earth is going on with the Yankees? At least the Red Sox have an excuse with their losing streaks. They are still down their #3 and #4 starting pitchers, and it looks like neither will make it back this season. They got their infielder Lowrie back, but it looks like he is going to have to win his job back. His replacements, no names to most of us, have been filling the holes with little change in how the Red Sox are playing. Newly acquired Bard has pitched well as a replacement starter, but he has a track record of breaking down.

JohnnyB…

Home again. Been reading this thread but can’t post from phone. Can other sites but not this one. Wish they would fix their software. [sigh] Caught strippers. Later

They both have their moments. [:D] Last night I was treated to a diaper that couldn’t hold back the mud slides or waterfall! All I could think was ‘all THAT came out of that little girl?’ [:O]

Jack - TheQ and I are very fortunate that our employers are permitting us to work remotely. Otherwise I would certainly be going bonkers! The uncertainty of how long the wait will be for the State ICPC offices to clear us is ridiculous. There really is no reason for it, we have had to get fingerprinted by MD, have multiple background checks run, had multiple home studies, multiple home inspections, etc, etc, etc. If we hadn’t had ALL of that done PRIOR to submitting to FL and MD for adoption clearance I could understand, but we have been approved by BOTH states. All they should have to do is make sure each piece of paperwork is in the packet, put a stamp on it, and send us on our way. It doesn’t make anything easier since MD doesn’t accept the paperwork electronicly. They require FedEX, they don’t even accept a FAX!!! What decade are we living in again?

[soapbox]

BUT - if they m

Hello all,

Quick check in while passing through the office

CHIEF!!! What did Pam think of the strippers??? [:-,]

88 More [angel]

Gotta run

Prayers for those in need

73 a beautiful summer day.

I did some odds and ends things today, nothing worthy of the pot. Had my banilla with chocolate syrup and peanuts. Got plenty for tonight’s thingy trip though…S.J.

So the Chief has been out chasing strippers at the lake again. I guess there are not enough in Roseyville. [(-D]

The Chief is right about one thing. I can’t post from a Blackberry or Ipod to the forum. From what I can see, there is not a version for a mobile. Maybe Prof. Murphy knows something about using the mobles to post on the forum.

Good Evening,

Quiet night here at Exit 8…80’s and cooler today, still humid. Just finished dinner and watching the Yanks pound the Angels…Cano is a single away from the cycle. And, for desert Yankee Pinstripe Brownie Blast ice cream…[swg]

Fife, Thanks for the invite…we’ll see what transpires. York is still a possibility, and glad you’re doing better.

Came home changed and fell asleep on the couch for 45 minutes…[zzz]

Jack - Facebook is how I keep tabs on her…and sometimes I don’t have to intervene…

I should stay up and watch Rescue Me, but I’m starting to feel tired. Monthly fire meeting tomorrow night as well. More hot air [banghead]

Will check in tomorrow!

Partly cloudy and about 80 today.

S.J. - That sounds like a tin roof sunday to me. Not many people south of the Michigan border call them that, though.

Demay - ever try the tuna appetizer at PF Changs? It is one of my favorites.

Laz - The Lokie probably has a fuze plug somewhere in the boiler. That is a plug with a metal filling that will melt out at pressures and temperatures that will occur if the water level in the boiler gets too low, venting the steam and releasing excess pressure. One of those peace of mind things.

All for now.

Hi guys! Off tomorrow for a day trip to da Bronx. Been tooo long. Should be nice and 82 degrees with low humidity.

SJ - I don’t profess to be a good cook but even I don’t ruin a frying pan and flipper! How’d you do that one??

Jack - I have no excuse for the way we play against your team this year. I heard an interesting thing on tv while watching tonights game. They said “I heard that the Red Sox fans are calling the radio station up there and saying that if we can beat the Yanks 10 games out of 12 (or something like that) why are we only a couple of games ahead of them?” Interseting.

NJDevil - Save some Brownie Blast for me!!!

Later

Ray

As a kid in Toledo they did call that a tin roof.

As for the frying pan, well i put soap and water in it, put it on the burner to warm the water and forgot it was on until the stink found me.
