I go to sites like NothingToxic.com and Break.com and watch train crash videos…I saw the BNSF video and wondered why there wasn’t a flurry of expletives from the crew when they saw the other train coming.
The video of the woman getting nailed by the F7[if it’s the one I’m thinking of] was made by a railfan, who was just out filming the action at the local station…apparently the people thought the bells and lites were activated by the train sitting at the station and didn’t bother to look, that poor woman was just not paying attention and got smacked, and unfortunately…dead. Moral of the story…check twice BEFORE you cross.
I watch the videos and see people doing the dumbest things imagianable…stopping on the tracks, trying to outrun a train,or just plain ole running into a train. Makes one wonder what these people use for brains.
On the BNSF head-on video regarding lack of crew verbiage … the microphone for these camera monitors is mounted OUTSIDE the cab. It is done this way so as to monitor train horn / bell and also the functionality of grade crossing bells.
Can you imagine the upheaval if you were to inform railroad employees that microphones were going to be installed for monitoring purposes IN the cab ??? - you’d have a mass walk-out.
